Farmington Canyon

Last Sunday we took a ride up Farmington Canyon to enjoy the fall colors and cool weather. I have been up Farmington Canyon before, a few times, but forgot how terrifying the ride up was. Mekelle cried the whole way up, she was scared our car was going to drive off the cliff. I have to admit, the thought crossed my mind a few times. Ammon got car sick, and was also a bit nervous. Although the ride up was terrifying, the ride down didn't seem to bad. The view was amazing! We all enjoyed it once we were on flat ground again.

I took my camera in hopes to get some great pictures. When we got to the top I realized our battery was dying and I had left the memory card at home. These are some pictures we took with our camcorder. The pictures don't show off the beautiful colors.

Carly decided to give herself a bath after she had a little accident in her undies. She filled the tub with freezing cold water and took several wet trips to the toy closet to get herself some fun toys (talking dolls, barbie cars, paperback books, battery operated cash register, stuffed animals....you get the idea) She had so many toys in the tub, she couldn't even sit in the water. This is how I found her.....so proud of herself! After being grateful she didn't drowned herself, knowing the dozen sets of wet footprints across the carpet to the toy room would dry, thinking about the books I would be throwing away and the rescue I would have to provide to the battery operated toys, I decided the best thing to do was... take a picture. Lol silly girl!

I can't believe a year has come and gone. With Brielle being my last baby, I just want to hold on to every moment and make it last just a little bit longer. She has been such a joy in our life, so happy and lovable. What a blessing she is to our family.

On Brielle's 1 year birthday I gave her her very own plate of food. We had pasta, peas, and chicken nuggets. She thought she was in heaven, she even licked the plate clean.

The 4th graders got to go to Snow Basin for the day. It was Mekelle's first time on the slopes, she picked it up very quickly. She kept saying it was so fun, the funnest day ever. That night she thought about her ski trip all night while she slept. The only thing she didn't love was sunburned lips. Sorry Mekelle! My mom and I took a drive to Snow Basin to watch her ski for a couple of hours. It was soooo cold, but the girls didn't seem to mind. I was so excited to watch Mekelle master a sport I absolutely love! You go girl!!

We went sledding in my brothers back yard. Most people mistake it for a public park, so there is usually a lot of people. We were lucky and had the hill to ourselves. It was a lot of fun. Our parents both stopped by to see the kids go down the hill a few times and then we had hot chocolate with Diana and Dan's family.

Ammon loved the jumps and went off of them over and over. Mekelle even went off a few. One time Shane thought it would be cool to lay in front of the jump and have Ammon jump over him, but the sled stopped on Shane and Ammon flew through the air. It was pretty funny.

Sweet Carly is turning 3. She is such a joy and blessing in our home. She keeps the humour in our home, she is always doing something silly to crack us up. She believes she is Cinderella and her room is her castle. She often reminds us to call her by her correct name "Cinderella". She has also given each of our family names. I am Belle, Shane is Super man, Kelle is Aurora, Kenley is Tinkerbell, Ammon is Spider man, and Brielle is Snow White. We will be driving in the car and Carly will call out "Belle, where are we going? She is so much fun! Her new favorite word is actually and she uses it so well. "Mom, I would like coco puffs for breakfast.....hum, actually, I would like Cheerios." We love you Cary, Happy Birthday!

Brielle has been trying to crawl for about a month and hasn't quite figured it out until the other day. I was busy getting everyone ready for our Family Halloween party and put Brielle down with some toys to try to keep her busy. After about 15 minutes she started to get fussy and wanted me to hold her. I was in a huge hurry and knew I could get things done faster if I left her on the ground. She cried for a couple of minutes and then stopped. The next thing I knew she was right by the door where I was. No one actually saw her crawl there, so we scooted her back to her toys to watch her crawl again. We all clapped and cheered for her. She was so proud of her new accomplishment.

Brielle is almost crawling. She will push up onto her hands and knees, wiggle back and forth, and even move her legs. She just can't figure out how to move her arms. She pushes off with her legs which moves her forward right onto her tummy. She looks like she is flying. She often ends up just rolling everywhere. It seems to be quite a bit faster. Today she discovered how to get into a somewhat sitting position from the crawling position. She is so fun to watch.

The kids had so much fun playing dress up all morning. They worked really hard all week to earn this big prize. Our Cousin Lindee was so sweet to hand down all of her girls dance outfits to my kids so they could play dress up with them. (Thanks Lindee! They LOVE them!) We kept it a secret from the kids. We told them if they worked really hard to help keep the house picked up and treated each other nice we would give them a big see prize. They were soooo excited to see that their big prize was dress up.

School started today for our kids~ it was a great day at our house. As much fun as we had during the summer up in the canyon, at lagoon, the park, family reunions, stadium of fire and all the great things we were able to do, the kids were so ready for school to start and so was I. Ammon was especially ready for school. He missed the deadline for Kindergarten last year by 2 months. All of his friends started school last year, He has been so anxious to go to school and be with his friends. I know he will have a great year.

The 4th of July is one of my all time favorite holidays!! I love being out side enjoying nature and watching the fireworks with all our family. Every year we travel to the Provo Canyon and have a picnic and play in the river. At night we enjoy sitting out on blankets outside of the BYU stadium. We listen to the performers of the Stadium of fire and watch it all on the big screen. Afterwards we watch the amazing firework show. Shane, Carly and I up Provo Canyon

Our ward had a father, son camp out at our stake camp sight in Morgan. Too bad Shane didn't get a picture of him with Ammon. I would have enjoyed it. Shane said that Ammon spent most his time there playing in the fire. That sound about right. I'm so glad they were able to have some bonding time together. The girls and I took advantage of the boys being gone and had a girls night out. We painted finger nails, ate pizza, watched a movie, and had a sleepover in the TV room. It was a lot of fun for everyone.

Mekelle rode the Colossus for the first time today. She said it was scary but fun. She can't wait to go back and try the Wicked. That's my girl!

What a good day! After a week of being sick and three days in the hospital Carly finally was smiling again. I was so happy to see her acting better.

We had quite the scare last month with Carly. After several days of vomiting , diarrhea, and several trips to the doctors office, Carly was admitted to the hospital. She was checked for ear infections, bladder infections and finally after 3 days in the hospital she was diagnosed with rota virus. She got extremely dehydrated and was very lethargic. She wouldn't talk, no smiles, she just moaned and slept. I felt so bad, she was so sick. She wanted mommy to make her feel better and I didn't know how. In fact, when she cried so did I. I guess it didn't help that I had just spent a week in the hospital the month before. When Carly was admitted into the hospital, Brielle was only a month old and nursing. I didn't know what else to do then to keep her at the hospital with Carly and I. My mom stayed with us so she could help me with the baby. We tried our best to keep from spreading the virus to Brielle, but she ended up getting it anyway. Luckily, she did just fine staying hydrated. I stayed during most of the day at the hospital and Shane spent the nights so that I could take the baby home to sleep. The doctor wanted Carly to stay in the hospital until she would start to drink liquids again. She didn't want anything to do with food or drink for the first few days. It was really sad to see her so lifeless and feeling so sick. I was relieved when she started smiling again. We got to take her home on Shane's birthday. What a nice gift.

We had lots of visitors and Carly got lots of love, cards, balloons and gifts. Thank you for all that everyone did for us while we were there, and for all the prayers on Carly's behalf.

The kids came to visit Carly and brought get well cards to help cheer her up.

Carly refused to eat or drink anything most of the time she was at the hospital. The few times she did eat, she wanted pickles, french fries, and ice cream. So that's what we ordered.

What a fun, filled day! The day started out at the Timpanogos Temple @ 9:30 then Lunch in Provo @ 1:00 , and the Reception in Oakley From 5- 8:00. Although there was a lot of travel on a snowy day, it was a lot of fun to be with family and relatives. I haven't been doing a lot of preparing for the big arrival of the baby up until yesterday. I guess you can say I got a burst of energy. I put the crib up, rearranged Carly's room and the living room. After Ammon saw all of the rearranging he wanted me to rearrange his room too. It was so much fun, but I did pay the rest of the day with aches and pains from sciatica. I spent the rest of the day laying on the coach with ice. I guess that's what I get with only 4 weeks to go.

Kenley wanted to have a friend Birthday party this year. Kenley and I decided we would have 8 girls there so we made up some invitations and passed them out. We bought enough of everything for a party of 8. Little did I know Kenley copied the invitations on her own and passed them out to the girls in her class at school. I started to receive phone calls from moms of little girls that were not on our list who all said their daughters would be there. A bit confused I asked Kenley what was going on. After Kenley fessed up to what she had done we just had to laugh about it. 11 girls ended up coming, we were really glad they all came. I have to admit it was a lot of fun. Silly Girl!! The party theme was Tinkerbell and fairy friends. Everyone came as their favorite fairy. We painted nails, glittered faces and hair, played follow Tinkerbell, and dance off. Kenley was thrilled.

Christmas Eve Family Fun!!

Just being silly!

Every year on Christmas eve the kids get new Christmas PJ's and they get to open the present they buy for each other. They really look forward to it. After we open their presents we sing a Christmas song, prepare Santa's treats and send them off to bed. It is one of my favorite celebrations.

This year the kids acted out the story of the birth of Christ for Shane and I. They were so cute they even used the princess tent as the inn. They had so much fun!

Ammon turned 5 on November 18Th. This was party #2 for Ammon. He had been counting down the days to his b-day for over a month. Kelle wanted me to TRIM her hair and take her picture before her little trim. As I started cutting Mekelle kept telling me to cut more....and more.....and even more. So what started as just a trim, turned into quite the hair cut. We ended up cutting about 7 inches. Last time Mekelles hair was this short she was 4. I have to say it I think it turned out really cute and Mekelle really likes it too.

This was the first time Carly kept a bow in her hair for more than 5 seconds. It was definitely a picture moment. Carly has a mind of her own! she doesn't like shoes or socks and she will pull them of right after you put them on and say owwee foot. She doesn't like anything in her hair or on her head, no hats, no bows, no piggy tails, nothing. We are so happy to have one bow picture.

Another side view, it must be getting late! This is Kenley and Mekelle on their first day of school. They started school at a brand new elementary, Buffalo Point. The school was not finished in time to start when the rest of the schools started so the girls got a couple of extra weeks of Summer vacation.
Mekelle is now in 3rd grade, and kenley has advanced to all day school in 1st grade. Her favorite part is getting to eat school lunch.

Our family went up to our Stake Camp grounds in Morgan with my mom and dad and Chandra and her family. We had a lot of fun roasting Marshmallows for our smor's and cooking our hot dogs over the fire. It is such a beautiful place, and so peaceful. There is nothing like being outside under the stars up in the mountains.

If you don't know already, we are expecting our #5 baby. This came to us as quite a surprise, as it was not the plan for any time soon. Now that the shock has warn off and we know it is really happening we are thrilled beyond belief............actually that is Ammon who is thrilled beyond belief. Ammon prays every night that Heavenly Father will send him two baby brothers. He is soooo excited that he still has one more chance for another boy in the house. The girls are excited too but they are a little concerned that I have to stay a few days in the hospital when the baby is born. This pregnancy has been much different then the rest. I started showing very quickly and the morning sickness didn't just happen in the morning. It knocked me out for a good month and a half. I am excited to be feeling well again. Wow, another baby! We really are truly blessed!

Preschool Field Trip 10/07/08

Wow, It has been a while. I have had many requests to actually add something to my blog once in a while. I decided I need to take blogging 101, maybe that would help.

Today Ammon and I went on a field trip with his preschool to the Fire station and to a farm. We had a lot of fun. Ammon has been so excited about it for days and talked about it all day long. At the Farm we got to go on a hayride, go through a corn maze, see the animals, pick a pumpkin, smell and take home a freshly picked onion and carrot, and play on a lot of farm fun play toys.

I love that I am able to take time out to go on field trips with my kid and enjoy their special moments.

Shelena wanted a place to post things about family and friends, pictures, etc. Therefore, in conjunction with the opening of the 2008 Summer Olympics in China, we are celebrating an opening ceremony of our own with the creation of this new blog especially for her! This is now the official site of the Shane & Shelena Crowton Family.

Well, I guess we should start with some fireworks and the family parade. Okay...hold on just a minute while I light this sparkler....ouch!, oh, there we go. Ooooh, aawwwww!! Alright, on to the parade. Wow, the crowd is pretty loud.....oh sorry, it's just the dogs. There's actually not as many people here as I had anticipated. I'm sorry to say that I'm here all alone. Shelena and the kids decided to stay the night at the home of her sister, Alicha. So, that leaves me to carry on the festivities....ah, just a second, the neighbor is coming out. "Hi, how you doin'? Thank you so much for your support! I'm goin' for the gold, baby!!"

Hmmm, that was kind of awkward. They didn't seem too supportive. I guess a man wearing a Speedo isn't a common occurrence in this neighborhood. Well, thank you all so much for visiting. Please come again soon, and because you are so supportive let me get you a little something. Hey waiter, could I get a couple of ice waters over here!
